O. James Fox Collection
With his poems and photographs, O. James Fox poignantly depicted what he saw as he served as an eyewitness to one neighborhood in Indianapolis during the post-World War II period. Although urban renewal and an interstate belt have altered and demolished the physical structures, Fox's work bears witness to an era and a community. This collection includes black-and-white and color photographs and color slides made by O. James Fox between 1945 and 1960. The photographs depict scenes of African-American families, children, and the urban environment of the near west side of Indianapolis. The photographs depict scenes of African-American families, children, and the urban environment of the near west side of Indianapolis. The children were often photographed playing in yards, alleys, or along the Central Canal. Most photographs include at least one individual, sometimes at a distance or visible in a shadow. Neighborhood scenes, particularly those depicted in the color photographs, include views of Indiana Avenue. Other color photographs document activities in the Flanner House Cannery and a party involving women and children.

NOT POP-UPS: The Other Illustrated Books, Ephemera, and Graphic Designs of Vojtech Kubašta (1914-1992)
In 2001, Broward County Library’s rare book department, the Bienes Museum of the Modern Book, began collecting the works of Vojtìch Kubašta (1914-1992), the Czech paper engineer, children’s book illustrator, and graphic designer. In 2005 the Bienes Museum organized one of the first major exhibitions of Kubašta’s works entitled: Pop-ups, Illustrated Books, and Graphic Designs of Czech Artists and Paper Engineer, Vojtìch Kubašta (1914-1992). Since then, the Bienes Museum has accumulated the largest public institutional collection of Kubašta’s works in the United States. It includes approximately 315 advertisements, calendars, flat books, maps, models, pop-up books and greeting cards, portfolios, postcards, posters, prints, and stationery. Kubasta is best known for his intricately designed and paper-engineered pop-up books yet scant attention has been paid to his “flat books” and other graphic designs. With the current exhibition: Not Pop-ups: The Other Illustrated Books, Ephemera, and Graphic Designs of Vojtìch Kubašta (1914-1992), May 20 to Oct. 8, 2007, the Bienes Museum hopes that historians and scholars will begin to also study and research this aspect of Kubašta’s unusually vast body of work.

North Carolina Newspaper Digitization Project
The “North Carolina Newspaper Digitization Project” is a pilot project, funded by a LSTA grant provided by the State Library of North Carolina, to digitize the earliest known North Carolina newspapers. The goals of the project were to determine the amount of effort it took to digitize early newspapers, establish best practices for outsourcing the digitization of newspapers, and create 3 lesson plans for K-12 stakeholders. Materials included in this collection are papers dating from 1751-1890s from cities like Edenton (1787-1801), Fayetteville (1798-1795), Hillsboro (1786), New Bern (1751-1804), Salisbury (1799-1898), and Wilmington (1765-1816) - a total of 23,483 digital images that are keyword searchable.

North Carolina Family Records Online
This joint digital collection from the State Library of North Carolina and the North Carolina State Archives currently contains over 220 family Bible records (lists of birth, marriage, and death information typically written inside of family Bibles) from the State Archives and the six-volume Marriage and Death Notices from Raleigh Register and North Carolina State Gazette: 1799-1893, a 1,100-page compendium of marriage announcements and obituaries compiled by then State Librarian Carrie L. Broughton. North Carolina Family Records Online has a narrow scope at present, containing only a tenth of the over 2,000 Bible records owned by the North Carolina State Archives, but it is hoped that the online collection will continue to grow. All of the Bible records selected for digitization contain family history information dating from the 1700s or earlier and span over 150 years, with the majority of the materials dating to between roughly 1750 and 1900. Each record has been scanned, transcribed by Archives and Library staff and is available for free on the web. And, because the mostly handwritten materials have been transcribed, the entire collection is full-text searchable, enabling users to search by name, location, or other subject words and phrases. Due to the content and time period covered in the North Carolina Family Records Online collection, it reflects only a small segment of North Carolina’s diverse population – namely literate, Protestant Caucasians of the 18th and 19th Centuries. However, 25 Bible records contain documentation about the birth of slaves, and many other records contain information about governors, legislators, and other political and military leaders who helped shape this country.

North American New Music Festival Archive Photos
The North American New Music Festival was founded in 1983 by Yvar Mikhashoff and Jan Williams, faculty members of the University at Buffalo Music Department and dedicated proponents of contemporary and avant-garde art music. Their aim was to produce, over a ten-day period, a concentrated series of concerts and related events at multiple Buffalo-area locations. These annual music festivals featured a wide range of modern musical styles composed and performed both by emerging creative musicians and by established composers of national and international reputation. The Festivals were held in March or April in the years between 1983 and 1992, in October of 1993, in February of 1995, and in April of 1996, with events occurring in more than a dozen locations, including concert halls, art galleries, churches, theaters, and cabarets. The works of more than 300 composers were presented, including many world premieres. The 173 images in the archive have been digitized to create this separate, online image collection. The original photographs include publicity stills submitted by participating musicians as well as photographs of musicians in rehearsal or performance. Notable composers represented in the collection include Milton Babbitt, Earle Brown, John Cage, Morton Feldman, Lejaren Hiller, La Monte Young, Netty Simons, Pauline Oliveros, and Frank Zappa.

Nevada in Maps
Nevada is the 7th largest state of the 50 United States; in 2003, Nevada was ranked 35th in population size. The print cartographic resources found in Nevada are primarily located in the University of Nevada Library collections at Reno and Las Vegas, the State Library and the Nevada State Historical Society. These institutions are separated by as much as 450 miles from patrons across the state. To ameliorate the situation this site offers an ever-expanding collection of maps on Nevada and the Great Basin.
The original focus of the digital map site was a collection of historic maps of Nevada presenting topographic, geologic, and mining themes which are not found in total in any of these institutions. Many of these maps are over 100 years old, deteriorating, rare, not cataloged and, therefore, not readily available or even known to all the potential patrons in Nevada. There are now over 4200 maps and atlases on this site with many more to be added. The site also includes contemporary maps of Nevada and the Great Basin, many of which are not cataloged or readily available to the general public

Nevada History in Maps
Historic maps of Nevada are scarce and found in only a few of the state's repositories of cultural heritage. In the earliest maps Nevada, along with much of the Western Hemisphere, was originally identified, if at all, as 'terra incognita - unknown land. This collection of historic maps was selected by age, condition, and how well they would be presented on a web site, in addition to their general representation of the development and settlement of the area which became the state of Nevada.

NC MOSAIC
Local, county, and state government information is found (or perhaps equally likely, not found) in public and academic libraries, historical societies, government agencies, and even in corporate offices. Often, locating information about a certain topic is challenging and may require a researcher to travel from one institution to another to gather a complete view of a topic. With NC MOSAIC, the State Library of North Carolina attempts to bring together in one online location links to important collections of government information, including maps, publications, records, and historical documents that have been made available on the Internet by academic institutions or government agencies in North Carolina. The records found in NC MOSAIC do not contain government information themselves. Instead, they describe and link to online resources found all over the state. Searches within NC MOSAIC examine these descriptions for word and phrase matches and point researchers directly to relevant collections, whether they are housed in New Bern or Boone.
